First real dinner since I came to Brown... with Peter Gilson a CEO

Highlight of the Day:

I haven't had a real dinner with someone since I came to Brown. Before that, I had lost of dinners and formal activities on MV Explorer, Forum of Sino-U.S. Relations, and back in Beijing. I kind of miss the old "networking" days, though I love my academic Ph.D. life at Brown very very much.

And today, I had a dinner with Peter Gilson (a Brown alum and the current CEO of Swiss Army Brand), Professor Barrett Hazeltine and his wife, and other 8 EP members. The dinner was wonderful, not only because of the good food, but also because:
1) What I learned from this CEO.
2) Through Prof. Hazeltine, I got reconnected to an old friend that I met on MV Explorer!

I always feel kind of a pity that I didn't receive any entrepreneurship education during my undergraduate years at ZJU, so I've been trying to catch it up since I found myself interested (not necessarily do it myself, though). The most important things I learned today is that:
1) Being an entrepreneur is a trial-and-error thing. Keeping kissing frogs until you get your prince.
2) Do you have a entrepreneur that you admire the most? I cannot even answer this question.
3) Try to make one of your team member happy every day.
Another point he made but seems less helpful to me at this moment is, "Never buy a company that the president has not signed a five-year contract."

I think that these principles are generally applicable to every field, even to academia.
Who do you admire the most (who is your role model) in academia? I need to come up with a satisfying answer. It was Madam Curie when I was a little girl, and I guess now it is Richard Feynman in Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman.

I started to read The Intentional Stance by Daniel Dennett today.
